The department has introduced B. A.
(Hons.) Programme in 1971. M. A. was introduced in 1977. We also have an
active Ph. D. Programme. We have a committed team of twelve faculty
members. The department has tried its best to keep pace with the
ever-expanding frontiers of knowledge. Updating of the courses of studies
offered at undergraduate and graduate level has been a distinctive
features of the teaching programmes of the department. During the last
decades the department has revised its courses, introduced new papers,
updated the teaching skills of its faculty members, and created viable and
permanent structure for the conduct of workshops/Seminars/Conferences and
debating forums. Ours is one of the few departments in the country where
teaching of Computers has been integrated with teaching of
Economics. The department has competent people in
the International Finance and Trade, Econometrics, Development Economics
and human Resource Economics. The department was also granted the status
of a resource centre for IT education under the UGC sponsored project:
Computer Application Programme. The department has been organizing
Orientation Programmes, extension lectures and providing computer training
to Research Scholars and Teachers in Econometric Softwares. So far around
100 teachers have received training under this
programme. The department has envisaged ambitious
programmes of teaching and research with special emphasis on improving the
quality of teaching at undergraduate level particularly by introducing
papers on Computer Applications in Economics. The current syllabi for B. A., B. A.
(Hons.) and M. A. have been prepared in line with the recommendations of
the UGC expert committee. Our Courses are comparable with any other centre
of excellence in Economics in the country. The department while taking
pride in its achievements does not want to sit on its laurels but will
continue to strive for
betterment. |
