Brief History of the Department of
Economics
The Department of Economics established in 1920
is one of the major Departments of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The Department has been served by some dignitaries who were, later
on, elevated to higher positions in different fields in India as
well as abroad, including Lat Prof. Ehsan Rasheed, Former
Vice-Chancellor, Karachi University, Pakistan, Prof. Abdul Qayyum,
Redt. Prof. University of Stanford, U.S.A., Dr. A. Haseeb who rose
to the position of Executive Director, RBI, Prof. Abu Salim who
worked in ILO, Prof. Nijatullah Siddiqui who got Shah Faisal Award
of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Prof. F.R. Faridi who did pioneering
work in Islamic Economics etc.
Some of
the old boys of the Department include his Excellency Sri Babu
Parmanand, Governor, Haryana (2002) and Deans, Principals,
Professors and large number of IPS, IES and IRS officers
etc.
