About the Workshop

Delhi University Library System is going to organize a Workshop on Information Literacy and Competency for the benefit of the Faculty Members and Research Scholars in the discipline of Science/Social Science and Arts & Humanities.  This program is being organized with a view to: 

• Expose the audience with the availability of electronic resources which are being subscribed by the Delhi University and can be accessed Campus wide.

• Expose to the public domain electronic resources in the field of Sciences/ Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities.
• Provide a practical demonstration with the help of certain standard rules generally being followed for citation of bibliographical references, footnotes etc.
• Demonstrate various search techniques for searching precise and relevant information on the web.

• Orientation to Web of Science, a leading multi discipline citation database.

The Web of Science, a leading multidiscipline citation database, provides seamless access to information from the world’s most influential, highly-utilized scholarly literature.  It also provides a unique search method called cited reference searching along with a facility to navigate to electronic full- text journal articles. The Web of Science, has recently been made accessible on DU Campus wide network.  There are following 3 databases available for access: 

1. Science Citation Index Expanded-1999-Present.

2. Social Science Citation Index- 1999-Present

3. Arts & Humanities Citation Index- 1999 – Present.

• 24^th February, 2010- Discipline of Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities,

• Venue: Conference Centre, DU.

Who can participate 

All M. Phil & Ph. D  Scholars in the discipline of Sciences/ Social Sciences  and Arts & Humanities of University of Delhi, Delhi can participate in this workshop.  We also  invite the respective Faculty Members to join the workshop at 2:00 P.M. onwards, for an orientation to the Web of Science, a leading multidiscipline citation database.  However, if a faculty member desires, he/she is also welcomed to join the full day workshop.

Please contact Mr. Rajesh Singh, Deputy Librarian in the Central Library and register your name with him latest by Monday, 30^th January, 2010 so that we formally invite you for the program.  Please note that since we have limited number of seats for this program, it will be purely on first come first serve basis. Faculty members may kindly leave their consent with Mr. Rajesh Singh, Deputy Librarian, Central Library, or can mail the consent form at rajeshzone29@yahoo.co.in.
